Why You Deserve Period Support & How To Easily Afford It
You’ve probably heard it said, “It costs more to be healthy than it does to be unhealthy.” I’m feeling this about food/groceries (can I get an Amen), and it’s true about so many things. Spending the bare minimum still costs an arm and a leg during this economic inflation. You work hard for the money you earn and you have big plans for the dollars in your bank account. With so many expenses every month (vehicles, kids, furniture, clothing, and those must have specialty coffees) it’s easy to want good things but feel like they are financially out of reach. What could be worse than paying for yet another thing?
I can think of something worse – experiencing yet another painful period 😭. I would LOVE to never have a painful, unsupported period ever again (and thankfully I’m headed in that direction). As a teen, I’d get increasingly anxious as I got closer to menstruation each month, I was also very irregular so I was always prepared for the arrival of crippling pain. I’d throw up for hours from severe pain and it would prevent me from keeping my super pills down (that’s what my sister and I called my pain medication). The thing I hate the most about period pain is the dark thoughts that creep in… insert cold shiver here… I don’t ever want to go back to the way it used to be. It was worth it for me to do the schooling and research to figure out how I could better support myself (and others) during menstruation.
I heard once that if a person buys 2 coffees a week at $4 a piece, that equals $416 a year just on coffee. It’s true – cutting out specialty coffees could save you money. But wait! I’m not here to tell you to stop buying the Pumpkin Spice Lattes, I’m here to say “Treat yourself!” Go get yourself a Brown Sugar Oat Americano and conquer the world! You deserve it, just like you deserve to have Period Support. Receive care and get a break from the overwhelming pain your body has been experiencing for years. Cutting down on specialty coffees and eating out might actually be the thing to do LOL! Before you do that, try sitting down with your bank account and looking at your budget (don’t budget yet? My husband and I have used Every Dollar Budget App for 6+ years and we love it). Oftentimes, we can rearrange some money and find we have enough.
Some other options are: save for it, start a go-fund-me (too bold?), ask for gift cards for your birthday (I sell them here), or create a birthday registry with this app and send it to your family and friends. You could even just talk to your family and friends, get honest with them about your pain and ask for help to pay for Period Support (maybe they say no, that’s ok, but maybe they say yes!). You could find a side hustle that will bring in some extra cash, or cut out an expense for a few months (Netflix, Amazon, and cable are easy options). Or perhaps do the unthinkable and dip into a savings account - GASP 😱 - don’t worry, you’re not alone. We are scooping a bit of cash from our house fund this year because we want to put a higher value on our health — it’s not cheap but it’s worth it.
Period pain doesn’t just affect you physically, it affects your mental health, your relationships, and your ability to go to work and put those wonderful dollars into your bank account. There are so many ways to afford the things that we really need. It’s all about perspective and choosing to put health first.
